Robert Goebel

October 31, 1933 — April 2, 2011

Robert "Bob" L. Goebel, 77, of Silvis, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Rock Island Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation will be 3 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Anglican Church in Silvis or the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk.

Robert was born Oct. 31, 1933, in Victor, Iowa, son of William and Leona Scott Goebel. He graduated from United Township High School and served a four-year apprenticeship at the Rock Island Arsenal. Bob married Gloria Jacobs on Oct. 17, 1954, in Rock Island.

He worked at Buddy L in East Moline for several years. He later worked as a process engineer at Case IH, retiring in 1996 after 25 years. After retiring, he enjoyed working for Goebel Construction with his son, Scott. Bob enjoyed softball, bowling and golf and was a natural athlete. He enjoyed woodworking and was happy to do work in all of his children's homes. He was also an avid Cubs and Bears fan.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria; children, Scott (Jean) Goebel, Orion, Jay (Lisa) Goebel, East Moline, Greg Goebel, Rock Island, Amy (Todd) Meeske, East Moline, Kyle (Bonita) Goebel, Carbon Cliff; son-in-law, Bruce Nelson, Silvis; grandchildren, MacKenzie (Korey) Lambert, BJ Nelson, Shannon (John) DeLaRosa, Brandon Nelson, Lindsay Williams, Collin Goebel, Nolan Goebel, Matthew Goebel, Jordan Hough, Devin Goebel, Elizabeth Goebel, Alexandra Meeske, Jacob Meeske, Megan Meeske and Emma Goebel; and seven great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Ronda Nelson; and a sister, Betty Toalson.
