Robert J. Gushanas

Robert J. Gushanas, 78, of Colona, Illinois died Monday, July 1, 2024 at Trinity West. 

Visitation is Friday, July 5th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m., at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial with military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be left for the family or Koren War Vets Chapter 168.

Robert John was born January 22, 1946 in Rock Island, Illinois the son of Eli and Alice Pederson Gushanas. The 1964 graduate of Rock Island High School was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict, on the DMZ from 1965-1967, later honorably discharged in 1968. On September 26, 1970, he married Diane Steffen in Cambridge, Illinois. Bob worked at John Deere Harvester Works for 43 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of Korean War Vets, having served as the Illinois State President; Colona American Legion, as Past Commander and Honor Guard Team; as well as serving on the Bi-State Commission at the Rock Island Arsenal. In his free time he enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating, playing chess, and collecting coins. Bob was a proud blood donor… over the years he had donated over 10 gallons of blood. Papa’s greatest joy was time spent at his grandkids activities.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Diane; sons: Erik Gushanas and Cory (Amy) Gushanas; grandchildren: Shawna, Delanie Grace, Delaney, Kennedy, and Aiden; step grandson: John; and his siblings: Daniel (Judy) Gushanas and Ann Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
