Thomas E. Hays, 88, of East Moline, passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at Park Vista Quad Cities in East Moline.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be noon Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis, where he was a member. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis with a rosary recital at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic School in Monroe City or Quad Cities Honor Flight.
Thomas was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Indian Creek, Mo., the son of Clarence and Johanna Lillis Hays. He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Gunason. He married Sarah "Jane" Ratliff on Feb. 5, 1949, in Shelbina, Mo.
Thomas worked for American Air Filter, retiring after 37A½ years. He was very active with his Navy reunions and was a guest of Quad Cities Honor Flight. He was also very active in the Silvis Little League Association and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Thomas was a devoted husband and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; children, Cynthia (Raymond) Bock, Timothy (Susan) Hays and Pamela (Mike) Bragg; grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, Alyssa, Sarah, Mike and Tommy; six great- grandchildren; and sister, Marcella Kendrick. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
