Tommy L. Halsey

Tommy “Tom” Halsey, 91, of Silvis passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at his home.

A memorial service will be 11am Friday at Schroder Mortuary with visitation 1 hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Moline. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Heritage Mission Fund or Gideon’s International.

Tommy was born November 17, 1931 in Oakdale, Nebraska the son of Charlie and Hattie Halsey. He farmed with his father in the Tilden area until he entered the Army in 1952 and went to basic at Camp Breckenridge, KY. After track vehicle mechanic school on Japan, he was sent to Korea and assigned to B Company 64^th Tank Battalion. Tom received an honorable discharge in 1954 with the rank of Sargent.

After returning from the service, he met a young lady that lived on a farm just down the road and she stole his heart. Tom married Katherine Wilson on March 11, 1956 in Tilden, Nebraska. Tom and Katherine relocated to Silvis in 1957, where they raised their son Randy and daughter Linda, and spent their remaining years. Kathy passed away in 2010, they were married 54 years.

Tom worked at John Deere Harvester, owned Silvis Refrigeration, and retired from H.C. Duke and Son in East Moline in 1993. He was a regular attender of Heritage Church in Rock Island, served with the Gideon’s International East Rock Camp for 19 years. Tom enjoyed working on the lawn and in the garden and did some woodworking. He enjoyed family get togethers and eating out on birthdays. He also enjoyed catfishing at Lake George with his daughter Linda.

Those left to celebrate his life are his daughter Linda, grandson Alex, sister-in-law Helen Halsey of California, brother-in-law Larry (Lola) Wilson of Viola, sister-in-law Bev Rice of Silvis and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife and his son Randy in 2014

The family would like to thank Genesis Medical Group doctors and nurses and all the caregivers for doing such a wonderful job of care and loving concern.
