Vernon Meldrum

Vernon R. Meldrum, 69, of East Moline, died on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus, Silvis. A memorial gathering will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, followed by a time for sharing. He was born on Jan. 10, 1944, in Newton, Kan., son of Victor and Verda Andrews Meldrum. He married Barbara Hemphill on Nov. 8, 1968, in East Moline. Vern worked at Randolph Auto Parts and was a self-employed auto mechanic. He also worked for East Moline School District 37 as a bus mechanic and maintenance person. He enjoyed working in the yard and on the computer and reading. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; children, Tim Meldrum, Colona, Greg (Danette) Meldrum, Colona, and Tracey (Jay) Ackerland, Battle Ground, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Vicki (Ray) Hughes, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
