Violet Childress, 87, of East Moline, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline.
Per her wishes, there will be no services. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to Hope Creek or Bethany Home for Children and Families.
She was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Gebiczyna, Poland, daughter of Joseph and Victoria Podlasek Wantuch. She came to the United States in 1951. She married Roman Childress in 1979 in Chicago. He passed away in 1981.
She worked as a waitress and a housekeeper. She also enjoyed her time working at Bethany Home in Moline. She was a member of the AA program for 32 years.
Survivors include her son, Michael (Carol) Dalton, of Kentucky; and special friends and caregivers, Maritia Griffith, Moline, and Susanne Dell, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The family would like to thank Hope Creek Care Center for the exceptional care given to Violet over the last year.
