Wallace C. Yenerich, 89, of Silvis, went to be with his Lord surrounded by his loving children Oct. 8, 2010, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, and 12:30 p.m. to services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Ashton United Methodist Church, Ashton, Ill. Interment will follow the services at Ashton Cemetery.
Wallace was born June 28, 1921, in Ashton, the son of Wesley and Minnie Yenerich.
He was an Ashton High School and North Central College, Naperville, Ill., graduate. He had a master's degree from the University of Illinois and taught high school math at Plato Center, Beason, Ashton and Rochelle high schools in Illinois. In 1979, he retired as the head of the math department at Rochelle after 35 years, but continued in education at Redbird Mission in the Appalachians of Kentucky for two more years.
He sold life insurance for Northwestern Mutual Life for 54 years. He was very active in his church over his lifetime, holding many different laity positions, including teaching the adult Sunday school class. He was a delegate in Houston, Texas, for the national uniting conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church. He then chaired the building committee for the construction of the new Ashton United Methodist Church in 1971.
He married Twyla M. Yeoman on Oct. 7, 1944. They enjoyed many summer days at their cabin in Three Lakes, Wis., where he water skied every summer until he was 87 years old, and enjoyed fishing and watching his favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. Wallace and Twyla enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and to many countries in Europe, Australia and the South Pacific.
Survivors include five children, daughters, Phyllis Pepiot, Naperville, Marlene (Ed) Farver, Green Valley, Ariz., Camilla (Bill) Hicks, Port Byron, Ruth (Ruddy) Botty, Spooner, Wis., and son, Paul (DeDe) Yenerich, Martinton, Ill.; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 63 years, Twyla; brother, George; and son-in-law, Harold Pepiot.
