Wesley E. Lammers

October 7, 1943 — December 2, 2024

Silvis

On December 2, 2024, Wesley Erland Lammers slipped peacefully away at the age of 81 in Silvis, Illinois, surrounded by his loving family at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Wes, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota on October 7, 1943, to Charles and Marian (Linquist) Lammers. He was a graduate of Fairfax High School and a state champion wrestler. After graduating high school, Wes enrolled and graduated from the Minnesota School of Business. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Puerto Rico. For twenty-three years Wes proudly served his country, including seventeen years in the U.S. Naval Reserve with the Seabees. Prior to his military service career, Wes achieved the highest award in the Boy Scouts of America of an Eagle Scout. He further continued his Boy Scouts of America career by being a scout master. He closed out his professional career by retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal.

On July 6, 1968, Wes married Anna Marie Theis in Fairfax, Minnesota and for the next fifty-six years they were blessed to share a life together. That life included becoming the father of three daughters who adored their father and six grandchildren of whom Wes was incredibly proud. He was a very involved grandfather and enjoyed watching his grandchildren excel in sports and school activities.

Wes was an avid golfer but approached it with the same dedication he had with everything else in life. He was proud to have the first recorded hole-in-one at the Mayflower Country Club, a feat he would accomplish not just once, but twice more. Aside from golf, he enjoyed a mean game of Euchre and telling a good joke. He was a friend to many and a stranger to none. He never passed up the opportunity to swap stories with a fellow veteran when he chanced to meet one. Wes loved his family, his country, and the Minnesota Vikings; he was a devoted fan and a wonderful family man who will be missed greatly by those who knew him.

Those left to honor his memory, his loving wife, Anna; daughters, Amy (Ron) Crist, Beth (Mike Hahn) Nechanicky, Christine (Justin) Miller; brother, Randy (Sue) Lammers; grandchildren, Mitchell (Savannah) Richlen, Riley Nechanicky, Abbey Nechanicky, Madison Miller, A.J. Miller, Mason Miller, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marian; in-laws, Joe and Mary Ann Theis, brother, Ben; son-in-law, Richard Nechanicky; brothers-in-law Doug Theis and Dan Theis, and sisters-in-law, Marney Lammers, Carol Theis and Marilyn Steffensmeier.

His family would like to thank Dr. Magdy Saad Mostafa for the many years of compassionate care, the doctors and nurses at MercyOne Genesis Silvis, and especially the nurses at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. The enduring kindness our family received from all these medical professionals during this difficult time will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Wes’s memory to the worthy causes of the U.S. Navy Seabee Foundation or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Thursday December 5th at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis Illinois with services to follow on Friday December 6th at 10am at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis Illinois. Burial will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery.
