Woodrow "Woody" Bowling, 82, of Silvis, passed away on July 30, 2015, at his home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Hampton Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Woody was born on Feb. 25, 1933, in Hyden, Ky., the son of Henry and Pearl Baker Bowling. He married Helen Gross on Feb. 9, 1952, in East Moline. She passed away May 12, 2015. Woody served in the Marine Corps during the Korean war and was very proud of his service. He retired from International Harvester. Woody enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and mushroom hunting. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Gary (Debbie) Bowling, Larry Dean Bowling, Richard Bowling, Woody Bowling and Linda (Mario) DeLaRosa; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Jackie Jones, Kathleen Schumacher, Jess Bowling, Mary (Don Kepple) Showalter and Denise (Denny) Anton. Woody was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Phillip; great-grandson, Toby; sister, Pauline; and brothers, Lee, Matt and McKinley. The family would like to thank Woody's granddaughter Melodie, UnityPoint Hospice and all of his extended church family for the care and support given to Woody.
