Yvonne A. Sherlock

November 24, 1940 — February 17, 2024

Moline

Yvonne Agnes Sherlock (Cornell), 83, of Moline passed away peacefully Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline. 

 

Per her wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no services. Quad Cities Cremation Center is assisting the family with arrangements. 

 

Yvonne was born November 24,1940 in Moline, IL the daughter of Charles and Marie (Cornell) Vermeire. She was previously married to John Sherlock of Ocala, Florida, to whom with she had three children.

 

Yvonne was a 1958 graduate of United Township High School. Following graduation, she attended the McConnell Airline School in Minneapolis, MN and then returned to be a ground hostess for United Airlines at the Quad City Airport. Her desires to start a family followed. Yvonne worked for Eagles Grocery stores for 5 years before embarking on a 25-year career in hospital administration at Illini Hospital.

 

Upon retirement from Illini, she headed south to Ft. Myers FL where she worked numerous jobs “on the beach” to stay active, but mostly to stay social. She loved people and people loved her back!

 

Later in life she returned to her roots, relocating to Coal Valley where she took on one of her lifetime favorite jobs at the Niabi Zoo. She loved animals, nature and all that it had to offer.

 

One of her proudest accomplishments in life was running the Bix 7 road race in Davenport!

 

Survivors include her children Brad (James) Sherlock of Charleston, SC, and Kyle Sherlock of Ft Myers, FL, brother Joe (Ann) Vermeire of Moline IL and half brother Ed (Elaine) Cornell of Rosehill, KS. Additionally she was blessed with granddaughter Megan (Eric) Mason and great grandchildren Nora and Cohen of Colorado Springs, CO.

 

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents and daughter Ramona.
